Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration and Immersion Presents are divisions of Sea Research Foundation, Inc., a private, not-for profit 501(c)(3)organization. But what does that mean?
To us at Sea Research Foundation, it means providing programs, resources, and experiences that contribute to the cultural enrichment of our local and global community. It means that we must have a heightened awareness of the conservation of our ocean planet and the needs of those who inhabit it. And it means that to do this, we must rely on the help and assistance of those who support the important work we do.
We need your help. Donations of any amount, made by someone like you, do make a difference! Your donation made today will help to further our efforts in a number of ways. Here are just a few examples of how your contributions can do the most good:
Rescue and Rehabilitation - The Marine Animal Rescue Team responds to reports of sick or injured seals, sea turtles or other marine animals stranded along the coastal waters of Connecticut and Rhode Island. It is the constant goal of our rescue team to rehabilitate each animal in their care with the hope of finally releasing each animal back into their ocean home. Your donated dollars can be used to buy much needed food, medicine, medical tools and assistance to aid in these animals’ recovery.
Education and Outreach – More than 100,000 school children visit the Aquarium every year, searching for a better understanding of history and the natural world. Through formal and informal programs, they gain insight into subjects such as biology, ecology, and marine archeology; sparking intellectual curiosity and fostering a lifelong interest in learning. For those students who cannot come to the Aquarium, there are traveling teachers and satellite telepresence to bring the wonders of the ocean’s depths into their classroom. Your donated dollars can provide teaching materials, bus transportation, and teachers to make these opportunities a reality for thousands of kids.
365 Days of Animal Care
”When I went to the Aquarium last summer, it seemed busy enough. Don’t the admissiontickets generate the money needed to keep it running?” Yes, ticket sales are an important source of funding, but not nearly enough to provide for all the food, care and attention of all our wonderful animals. Our animals need food and care seven days a week, 365 days a year, including the winter months when attendance is low. Your donated dollars help pay for everything the animals need, from electricity to power the pumps continually delivering oxygenated water to the 70 pounds of fish a day diet needed by a Beluga whale.
If all of these reasons aren’t enough, it is important to know that because Sea Research Foundation is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, your donation is tax-deductible. But most important of all, you can be confident that every cent of your donation will be put to good use, supporting our mission to inspire people to care for and protect our ocean planet through education, research and exploration.
